Lake Placid Lodge
A historic lakeside lodge
VERIFIED LUXURY
We verify luxury. Our highly trained inspectors visit every property we rate, evaluating based on up to 900 objective criteria. Our hotel stays span a minimum of two nights.
We pay our own way. No one can buy a rating; all ratings are earned through our objective inspection process.
Our global team of inspectors are anonymous at all times, so they have the same experience as a typical guest.
While we inspect both service and facility, our Star Rating system emphasizes service because your experience goes beyond how your surroundings look — how your visit makes you feel is what you will remember most.
We started in 1958 as Mobil Travel Guide, and we created the original Five-Star rating system for hospitality.
Five-Star
These properties deliver an outstanding experience and consistently offer a highly customized level of service.
Four-Star
These are exceptional properties, offering high levels of service and quality of facility to match.
Recommended
These are excellent properties with consistently good service and facilities.
Soon To Be Rated
As our highly trained, incognito inspectors work to assess properties, our editors check them out ahead of time and provide a sneak preview of what to expect.
The charming Lake Placid Lodge, situated on the edge of Lake Placid in the heart of the Adirondacks, was rebuilt after a 2005 fire destroyed the original lodge. Its arts and craft style remains true to the original spirit of the lodge.
Far from the film with the man-eating alligator prowling the peaceful water, Lake Placid Lodge is exactly what its name implies: a tranquil getaway. With a past filled with Native Americans, Gilded Age millionaires and Olympians, Lake Placid Lodge is still living up to its glory.
The interior is a luxurious take on rustic Americana, with warm colors and traditional furnishings dressed up with plaids and animal prints. The lodge features two restaurants: a casual pub where you can sip a hot toddy while playing a game of chess, and an upscale dining room, Artisans, which serves takes on fresh, organic American cuisine.

Our Inspector's Highlights
- Featuring hand-hewn wood beams and spectacular stonework, the Main Lodge was designed to reflect the luxurious great camps of the gilded age. The theme carries through to the supremely cozy rooms, where you'll find comfortable furnishing in rich colors, unique wood accents and stunning views.
- If you can dream it, you can do it at Lake Placid Lodge. From fishing, horseback riding and whitewater rafting in the summer to cross-country skiing and dog-sled rides in the winter, you'll never be bored during your upstate escape.
- No matter the season, you can expect complimentary sweet treats during the nightly bonfires. Lakeside s'mores are a staple at this spectacular Adirondack retreat — during the winter, enjoy yours with a steaming cup of hot cocoa or a more sophisticated sip.
- Make your arrival as grand as the escape itself with a private air transfer to the luxurious Lake Placid Lodge. Thanks to a partnership with Wings Air Helicopters, you can charter your own aerial entrance from nearby major cities, including New York, Boston and Philadelphia.
- Though situated on a sprawling estate, Lake Placid Lodge boasts a boutique feel, thanks to a grand total of just 30 accommodations across the property: five in the Main Lodge, 17 lakeside cabins, six suites in the Lakeside Building and two ultra-exclusive cottages.
Things to Know
-
Maggie’s Pub is quite a hit with guests if there’s a football, hockey or lacrosse game on television. (If you didn’t already know, Lake Placid is chock full of hockey and lacrosse junkies.)
-
Serving up creative drinks from “Maggie’s Drink Bowl,” you can sip on a homemade cocktail and nibble on the gourmet pub snacks.
-
Whether you opt for the harvest moon or the Indian summer, you’ll be more than happy as you cozy up next to the fireplace or challenge a fellow guest to a friendly game of billiards.
- As of January 2017, the resort now accepts tiny travelers of all ages, though keep in mind that children under 12 are not permitted to stay in the Main Lodge.
The Restaurants
- With its high windows and stellar porches, Artisans is truly a Lake Placid restaurant. Serving up a tasting menu as well as à la carte options, this beautiful restaurant hones in on the farm-to-table concept.
- As it is based on seasonal ingredients, the menu at Artisans tends to change with the leaves of the Adirondacks.
-
For a casual dining venue, head to Maggie’s Pub. With the only TV on the property, you can catch the game or challenge a fellow guest to a friendly game of pool.
-
The menu has your typical pub fare, but adds a gourmet and creative twist. Nosh on items such as mushroom risotto fritters or mac and cheese with homemade bacon lardon, truffle oil and English peas.
